BRICKMAN AWESOME LEGO EXHIBITION, DREAMWORLD
Seriously though, who doesn’t love LEGO? Your inner child will certainly be beaming over Dreamworld’s Brickman Awesome LEGO Exhibition. In town until 14th October (perfectly timed for the school holidays), this interactive display contains 39 exclusive LEGO brick models, including the tallest LEGO model in the Southern Hemisphere, the NASA SLS rocket! For all the rev heads out there, a life-sized Harley Davidson and Toyota Camry may pique your interest, plus there’s always the legendary DeLorean time machine from the blockbuster film, Back to the Future. You’ll also spot a bunch of impressive LEGO-made animals; there’s an orca, a croc, a couple of penguins, plus some adorable Aussie icons, including a kangaroo and koala. The kids will love the interactive element of the exhibit and can help to build the largest LEGO brick Snake mosaic in the country. And if they’re up for a bit of a mathematics challenge, dare them to count how many LEGO bricks make up the entire display…hint hint, it’s in the millions!
SEA JELLIES ILLUMINATED, SEAWORLD
Prepare to be hypnotised by the mesmerising underwater realm at Sea World’s newest attraction, Sea Jellies Illuminated. This colourful exhibit is both dazzling and informative, showcasing the otherworldly beauty of these unique aquatic animals. Around 2500 jellies call the aquarium home, including species like the moon jelly, the blue blubber and the ever-notorious irukandji. What’s more, Griffith Uni has a research centre right upstairs allowing scholars and scientists to delve even further into their studies and uncover valuable info on these captivating sea creatures. Pretty cool, huh? Visitors can also take a peek at the researchers in action, as well as pick up a hot tip or two on marine safety and what to do if stung in the ocean.
DC RIVALS HYPERCOASTER CLIMB, MOVIE WORLD
If conquering your fear of heights is up there on the #BucketList, we’ve got just the thing for you. Not too long ago Warner Bros. Movie World welcomed their newest and most exhilarating rollercoaster addition, the DC Rivals HyperCoaster. As the longest, tallest and fastest ride in the southern hemisphere, it’s easy to see why this coaster has become such a crowd-pleaser. But the team at Movie World has taken it one step further – or 282 steps to be exact – launching the DC Rivals HyperCoaster Climb, which allows adrenaline junkies to ascend over 61 metres to the highest point of the ride (while it’s not running, of course). Boasting 360-degree views over the theme park and across to the city and beyond, this experience will give visitors a whole new perspective of the attraction, while remaining an intimate and exclusive affair. That being said, the climb is open to only eight guests at a time, so be sure to book well in advance. Did we also mention there’s morning tea involved? Sign us up, stat!
FRIGHT NIGHTS, MOVIE WORLD
While you’re in the ‘hood, hang about because Fright Nights are back and are set to scare your socks off. No, seriously. Movie World do not do these nights by halves – they go full-horror. Along with with select rides and attractions open, there will be gore-themed food available and red flavoured drinks served in blood bags. Get pumped up with live hellish rock from the Fountain of Fame as you make your way through two new mazes, the Leatherface and the House of Kain. Running for 11 nights in October, for 14 years and up, you’re going to want to keep your wits about you at this one. Oh and stock up on throat lozenges ’cause you’re going to need them after all that screaming.
