If you’re wondering where the year went, don’t worry… so are we! With December well and truly upon us, Christmas celebrations are in full swing here on the Gold Coast. With so much to see and do across our fabulous city this silly season, we’ve curated your go-to guide for all things Christmas.

Get in the festive spirit with seaside Christmas carols to performances in the park, Santa photos for the whole family and even last-minute shopping locations. The Gold Coast simply has it all for your best Christmas yet.

Christmas Carols

Kindling the Christmas spirit across many Gold Coast communities, grab the family and attend one of the many free carol events. To catch your favourite man in red and more, check out these popular locations for all to enjoy.

Coolangatta Christmas Carols

Sunday 15 December, 4.00 to 8.00pm – Queen Elizabeth Park, Coolangatta

Hosted in Queen Elizabeth park, enjoy a night under the Southern Gold Coast stars at the annual Coolangatta Christmas Carols. Be entertained with live performances alongside Christmas Markets and food trucks from 4pm. Then sing along to your favourite festive hymns with legendary performer, Denis Walter, during the main show from 5.30pm. The highlight for the kids will be skydiving Santa and his grand entrance on the Coolangatta foreshore.

Carols on the Beach

22 December, 6.30 to 8pm – Surfers Paradise Beach

If you’re looking to experience a weeklong Christmas extravaganza, then look no further than Surfers Paradise. From the 20-24 December, the Surfers precinct will transform into a mini Summertime wonderland, filled with all things merry and bright.

During Christmas in Surfers Paradise, stop by Cavill Mall to step into a life-sized snow globe; snap a selfie with Santa in his Beach Bungalow.

Continue the fun at one of the most popular Christmas occasions on the Gold Coast calendar, Carols on the Beach on Sunday 22 December. Settle in for a spectacular line-up of local choir and dance talent pre-singalongs of your favourite Christmas classics, hosted by Channel 9’s Bruce Paige and Hit 90.9’s Ben Hannant.

Broadbeach Christmas Carols

Saturday 14 December, 3.00 to 8.00pm – Kurrawa Park, Broadbeach

Don your best Santa hat or reindeer ears and join the Broadbeach Christmas Carols for an evening of fun in Kurrawa Park. From 3pm get the kids involved with a host of hands-on festive activities before the main carols commence at 6pm. Santa will also be making a special appearance so be sure to head down early to claim your spot.

To save the hassle of parking, catch the Gold Coast Light Rail or take advantage of free parking available a short distance away at Pacific Fair Shopping Centre.

Getting all caught up in gift-giving and Christmas events that you’ve forgotten about your very own wish list and photo with Santa? A number of Gold Coast Shopping Centre meccas including Pacific Fair Shopping Centre, Harbour Town Premium Outlets, Australia Fair, The Strand at Coolangatta and Robina Town Centre have you more than covered.

Themed entertainment, kids activities, wrapping stations, centre freebies and even ‘drop and shop’ childminding are all on offer to keep you cool and collected whilst you make your way through your gift list.


Pacific Fair

Set in a magical gold pavilion, the kids can whisper all their Christmas wishes to Santa after exploring the pop-up enchanted land teeming with Christmas trees graced with fairy lights, reindeers and a bright red letterbox where you can mail all present requests straight to the North Pole.

Every child that gets a photo with Santa at Pacific Fair’s Pavilion will also score a free children’s book. Jump online to book a fast-pass to skip the queue.

Westfield Coomera

Capture your Christmas memories at Westfield Coomera right up until 5pm Christmas Eve. Bookings are recommended, although walk-ins are welcome.

As an all-inclusive experience, we’re championing their sensory-friendly Santa option where kids can experience Santa and his magical land in a relaxed, low-lit and noise-free environment. These sessions can be booked before opening hours from 7.30 – 9.30am when the centre is free from busy shoppers, giving families a chance to enjoy their moment with Santa in their very own private time slot.

Your furry friends don’t need to miss out either – they too can meet the big guy himself and pose for an insta-worthy photo with the family at these locations…

Sanctuary Cove

Fancy a Santa photo you can take (and retake) on your own smartphone or iPad? Head to the Marine Village in Sanctuary Cove during the weekend from 11am to 1pm until Sunday 22 December to get your very own happy snap with Santa himself and to declare your wish list – pooches included.

Harbour Town Premium Outlets

Ever seen a surfing Santa? When he’s not busy prepping his elves, Santa will be stopping by Harbour Town Premium Outlets from 11am to 3pm on his surfboard, in his favourite pair of boardshorts.

Jump on board with your furry friends to get your free paw-trait – you can even win a $250 centre gift card when you tag @harbourtowngc and #surfingsantaselfie on your socials.

Burleigh Pavilion

With a beautiful seaside backdrop for your holiday pic, visit Aussie Santa in a unique format at Burleigh Pavilion. Stopping by on Wednesday 18 and Thursday 19 December, get the family and the doggos smiling in action in the great outdoors, without the hassle of the shopping centres.

If you’re looking to gift something that’s a little different from the rest, local Gold Coast Christmas markets might just be your best bet.

Surfers Paradise Beachfront Markets

If you’ve had enough of the shops, meander alfresco style through the twilight Surfers Paradise Beachfront Markets. In operation since 1995, the markets have grown to over 100 private stalls offering everything from fresh produce to hand-made fashion and personalised treasures. The markets are located on the Esplanade at the end of Cavill Mall and have extended festive trading hours from 20-23 December, 5pm to late.

Broadwater Parklands Christmas Markets

Held at the popular Broadwater Parklands from December 20-22, this three-day annual Broadwater Parklands Christmas Market is perfect for those last-minute gifts. With a long line of stalls to browse, keep your shopping energy levels up with a range of food kiosks plus entertainment, carols and even an outdoor movie on the Saturday for the little ones.


And if all that Christmas carolling, gift shopping and photo-snapping still has you wanting more, jump in the car and head straight to Movie World for some next-level festive cheer.

For the month of December, White Christmas will be presenting an array of family-friendly activities including the Looney Tunes White Christmas main street parade; The Polar Express 4-D movie experience, bauble, gingerbread and boot decorating workshops, elf club and more. The whole family will also love exploring the Fairy Garden and Christmas Village precincts for an all-round night of jolly fun.

White Christmas is open from 5.30 to 8.30pm on selected nights, with general admission tickets starting from just $27 for children (aged 3-13), $42 for adults and free entry for annual pass holders.

So where better to head for all things Christmas this December? None other than the Gold Coast of course.
