For families and outdoor lovers
For a casual night under the evening stars with your friends or family, no matter what end you’re staying on the coast, we recommend heading beachside to watch a specular fireworks display (given no statewide fire bans are in place). For some of the best vantage points, check out:
Surfers Paradise Fireworks
This family-friendly event on Surfers Paradise Beach will see not one, but two spectacular displays during the New Year’s Eve Carnival in Surfers Paradise. The first display is set to light up the foreshore at 8pm for the young ones and again at midnight, with DJs and MCs sending 2019 out with a bang. Carnival rides will also be in operation from 3pm to 10pm near the Surfers foreshore from December 27 until January 1 (excluding NYE which will operate from 3pm until midnight) on the Surfers Paradise foreshore *ride cost apply as part of the mini Carnival experience.
Those who head to the equally popular Broadbeach precinct will also be treated to two scheduled fireworks displays and live entertainment to welcome in the new year. With your blanket and picnic basket in tow, head to Kurrawa Beach early (or later towards midnight) to claim your spot.
If you’re down the southern end of the Gold Coast, be sure to head to Queen Elizabeth Park in Coolangatta for your fireworks fix. The first display will kick off at 9pm and the second at midnight, so pack your outdoor camp chair or dine at one of the many restaurants dotted along Marine Parade for an uninterrupted view.
