Or take the kids to one of the playgrounds or parks to be found along the coastline.

There’s lots to do in this food and entertainment haven: spend your days browsing stores, or eating alfresco meals on its pretty, tree-lined streets, then kick off your evening with a tipple at a local bar, or with a parmi at a pub or surf club while the kids play in the park. Nights always see plenty of action in Broadbeach – get amongst it under the twinkling lights of its restaurant and bar-lined streets and boulevards.

While plenty of visitors are happy to spend their whole day at the beach, Broadbeach has no shortage of alternative entertainment or activities.

Take the kids to Level Up Arcade and have just as much fun yourself. This upmarket amusement centre is a hit with little kids, teens and grown ups alike. There’s a dedicated adult games area (which includes a pool table, limited edition pinballs and Foxtel) and the licensed bar opens from 10am.

Take a walk to Queensland’s largest shopping centre, Pacific Fair, for a full day of shopping and family fun. Catch a family flick at one of three Gold Class Cinemas, eight traditional cinemas, and the only 4DX cinema on the Gold Coast. Or check out EMJ Junior – a one-of-a-kind for families. Drop the kids off in an indoor playground with massive ball pits with slides and tunnels, climbing walks, building blocks and Lego rooms while you shop in peace at over 400 stores. There’s also a kids’ training room, a play centre… even a kids’ boot camp program!

Let the kids run rogue at Kurrawa Pratten Park right beside the beach. The park’s entirely fenced and has several zones for all ages all connected via a network of pathways. Kids can play in giant sandcastles, sand-pits or in a giant yellow submarine that sits below sea level. The flying fox is a major drawcard!

DINING

With so many restaurants to choose from, Broadbeach is one of the Gold Coast’s best dining precincts and in the evenings, families come out to dine al fresco in the streets. With over 50 restaurants, you could eat out somewhere different for every meal! There are entire streets in Broadbeach – like Oracle Boulevard, Surf Parade and Victoria Avenue, that are wall to wall with excellent eateries laid out beneath twinkling lights. Dining in Broadbeach is about more than eating – it’s all about the atmosphere.

The family will love the Coast’s best dumplings and dim sun at Harajuku Gyoza in The Oasis. It’s a take on Japan’s performance-based Izakaya-style cuisine (where the chefs entertain as they cook) so there’s going to be some fun served with your food.

Or if you have a thing for Italian, Broadbeach could be your new Rome. Gemelli serves up some of the most authentic Italian on the Gold Coast. Feast on wood-fired pizza, melted gnocchi balls and finish off with their famous Nutella Bomba dessert.

A short walk away, Mario’s Italian Restaurant is an icon of Broadbeach. The kids will love Mario’s signature Spag Bolognese while you’ll love their selection of Italian red and white wines (and the Steak Mario with Moreton Bay Mugs for two will tickle your taste buds). There’s also great Thai options and sushi stations nearby.

Or maybe take a night off from the kids, get a babysitter and sneak out for a dinner and drinks at the Gold Coast’s first James Squire Brewhouse. Or sit at the bar and order a cocktail with your meal at fine dining establishment (though it’s casual enough to wear thongs) at Social Eating House, home of three-time People’s Choice Chef Of The Year, Matthew Jefferson. Try the one-kilo salt brush lamb shoulder and finish it off with deconstructed rhubarb cheesecake. Yum!

Prefer your meal with a view of the surf? Easy. Kurrawa Surf Lifesaving Club is only a quick walk away. It’s got floor-to-ceiling windows in the dining room so you won’t miss out on a single wave. The food will keep the whole family happy – who doesn’t like a chicken parmi with chips on holiday? – and kids get ice cream for two dollars with their mains.

Take a walk to Pacific Fair Shopping Centre to try the juiciest burgers this end of the Coast at Betty’s Burgers Concrete Co. Set in a retro-1950s-style shack, the burgers are cooked right in front of you.

And Broadbeach has the perfect ice cream shop to end any meal at. The Gelato Shop at The Oracle in the middle of Broadbeach at has 96 flavours, all made fresh daily. So far, they’ve won six Queensland Food Gold awards and 28 Silvers. Good luck deciding which flavour you want.

EVENTS

Broadbeach offers amazing events year-round for both parents and kids. There’s all sorts of events on through the year, from the World Bowl Championships (this September) to the Groundwater Country Music Festival this November.

Blues On Broadbeach is held every May and is one of the country’s largest non-ticketed music festivals, attracting some of Australia’s biggest music acts performing in 20 areas on the beachfront and in the streets. Keep an eye out for the calendar of events. Some of Australia’s biggest acts also perform across the road at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre (this year, the likes of Keith Urban and Guy Sebastian will play).

GETTING AROUND

Broadbeach is built on a grid so you’re never far from anything so walking is easy and you won’t get lost. You’ll know you’ve gone too far if you hit the sand. If you prefer a bit more speed and little less exertion, hire an e-bike or e-scooter from Crooze Electric in Broadbeach.

The G-Link Light Rail runs along the Gold Coast Highway, on Broadbeach’s fringes. It runs north to Surfers Paradise and beyond, or to Pacific Fair Shopping Centre if you don’t feel like strolling. Just buy a Go Explore card from selected retailers, Gold Coast Airport or the Translink webshop.
