In the year ending September 2016, there were 55,500 visitors from Japan to the Gold Coast; a 6% increase on the preceding 12 months. This continued growth in visitor arrivals is due in part to the successful introduction of Qantas’ new direct service from Tokyo (Narita) to Brisbane in August 2015.

All Nippon Airways will commence direct daily Tokyo (Haneda) - Sydney services in December 2015. These services will add close to 80,000 seats to Australia each year and are expected to be significant in terms of boosting inbound travel from Japan. Read more

Qantas announces Daily Direct Services from Tokyo to Brisbane - Feb 2015

From 1 August 2015, Qantas is making it easier for customers to travel between Japan and Australia with direct, overnight services from Tokyo (Narita) Airport to Brisbane. The daily Qantas services would provide 210,000 seats a year between Queensland and Japan.
