In the year ending September 2016, there were 3.66 million domestic overnight visitors to the Gold Coast; a 3.8% increase on the previous year’s results. Domestic overnight visitor expenditure was up to $2.9 billion, 4.3% higher than the previous year.

During the same period, there were 8.5 million domestic daytrips taken on the Gold Coast, an 11% increase on the preceding 12 months. Daytrip visitor expenditure was 18% higher, reaching $818 million.

New Qantas Services from Melbourne and Sydney to the Gold Coast - Jul 2015
Qantas announced new daily Melbourne-Gold Coast Boeing 737 flights will commence on 25 October to help the carrier meet the growing demand for premium leisure services on this route. Other schedule changes will see an additional daily Qantas frequency between Sydney and the Gold Coast from February next year. Read more

Jetstar will fly daily from Avalon to Gold Coast from 26 October 2015. Jetstar Australia and New Zealand chief executive David Hall says the new flights to the South-East Queensland tourist destination was in response to community demand and represented about 65,000 extra seats a year at Avalon. TTF Survey shows impact of falling Australian Dollar
According to research released by the Tourism and Transport Forum Australia (TTF), nearly 40% of Australians have changed their travel intentions because of the falling Australian dollar, with 56% of Australians intending to take a domestic holiday in the next 12 months. The national survey also found that 7% of respondents had already switched their intended international destination for one with a cheaper currency; while 5% have switched from an international to a domestic travel destination. The research also found that 15% expect to travel to more domestic destinations as a result of the lower Aussie dollar.
