    Festival of Touch

The Festival of Touch concept has been created to invigorate, inspire and connect the touch football community in Queensland in response to the global pandemic, COVID-19 and its disruption on community events and competitions throughout the State. The 10-day Festival, to be held 27 November – 6 December 2020, encompasses two flagship touch football events on the Queensland Touch Football (QTF) calendar, including the Queensland State Cup and Queensland All Nations, which are held on consecutive weekends on the Gold Coast. The weeklong festival will also include professional development opportunities for administrators through the Queensland Affiliate Conference (30 November), a Sports Performance Conference (1 Dec) for both the touch and sports enthusiast and a South East Queensland Schools Gala Day (3 Dec) to engage and excite local schools in touch football. If that is not enough, based on the picturesque Gold Coast, Touchies can take the opportunity to enjoy a holiday shared with family and friends.

    Karen’s Diner Gold Coast

Karen’s of the Gold Coast unite! A pop-up dining experience is opening its doors on July 1 and will be home to more Karens than you can complain too! From the brave minds at Wonderland Bar & Beyond Cinema comes a diner like no other – expect rude service, singing waiters and regular guest appearances from the manager – the most Karen Karen ever – just don’t dare ask to see her! This is dining with a twist – the food is great, the service is ungrateful but your experience will be unforgettable. This is the anti Google review diner, a place where having 100k on Instagram gets you a naughty sticker rather than a free meal. Lear more about Karen’s Diner here.

High Cheese at Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort

For many, cheese is the glue that delicately holds our lives together. The team at Pearls Bar understand this lactose infatuation and has teamed up with Queensland’s own Kenilworth Dairies to create a high cheese filled with a slew of sumptuous sweet and savoury delights. From 4:00-8:00 pm every Thursday-Sunday, reserve a spot at Pearls Bar at The Sheraton Grand Resort in Main Beach and prepare to indulge. From $69 per person, soft-cheese lovers can sink their teeth into a truffle triple cream brie and oozing baked camembert with marinated figs and pretzel rolls. From there, hit the harder stuff and add a slice of 12-month-matured vintage cheddar, Kenilworth Blue or Malling red cheese to your artisan crackers and revel in the bold flavours. Sweet tooths will delight in the likes of roasted hazelnut Nutella cheesecake, berry mascarpone tart, port-poached figs with blue cheese crumble and candied walnuts, and a baked white-chocolate yuzu cheesecake. Those looking to elevate their experience further can choose to pair the high cheese with a gin or whiskey-tasting flight from some of your favourite Australian distilleries. Add three gins for an additional $17 per person, or warm-up from the inside out with three whiskeys for $20 per person. This dairy-filled feast is here for a good time, not a long time, so gather any fellow lactose-lovers and reserve yourself a table at this amplified high cheese experience.

    McCubbin to Smart: Australian Painting

Spanning over 100 years of Australian painting, McCubbin to Smart celebrates some of the country’s most recognised 19th and 20th century artists, drawn from the significant collection of the Jreissati family. Find inspiration, and maybe even a little recognition, as you explore the continuities and shifts in landscape, still life and figurative art from the turn of the century to the era of free experimentation. McCubbin to Smart reflects on how the impact of living in this incredible country has led to ever-expanding modes of expression, and how artists have recorded the world around them. HOTA would like to acknowledge the contribution of the Jreissati family to this exhibition and their generous support. Presented by HOTA, Home of the Arts
