Renting a seaplane is one of the most romantic ways to spoil your special someone, especially if you're planning to propose.

Cloud9 Seaplanes offer a range of packages, but their Romantic Island Picnic package is sure to get your heart racing with spectacular views and a picnic lunch on a secluded island where you can swim and explore before enjoying a gourmet platter of seafood and chilled champagne.

Make a night of it and book a stay in the picturesque Worendo Cottages.

11. Play a round

No matter how old you are, a visit to King Tutts in Surfers Paradise or Putt Putt Golf Mermaid Beach for a game of mini golf is always going to be a good time! And the best news - they're open until late so you can play a round before you head home to play around.

12. Drive-In

Steam up your windows with your date at the only drive-in movie theatre left on the Gold Coast, Yatala Drive-In Theatre. If it's a warm night, pack a picnic rug so you can spread out under the stars, otherwise fill the car with blankets and pillows and snuggle down (wink, wink). There's even a 50s-style American diner where you can grab a hotdog and choc top, or fill a picnic basket with delicious snacks and drinks.

13. Go on a road trip

The Gold Coast's hinterland's subtropical rainforests seem far removed from the glitz and glamour of Surfers Paradise. Create an awesome playlist of songs you both love (and can sing along to) and head to the hills for a drive through scenic forests, cliffs, gorges and waterfalls. Stop along the way for coffees, baked goods, roadside fruit and vegetable stands, wine tasting and anything else that takes your fancy.

With 56 kilometres of coastline, you'll be spoiled for choice when it comes to romantic spots to watch the sun rise over the Pacific. 18. Plan a picnic

There are few things quite as romantic (or as easy to organise) as a picnic; all you need is some sunshine, a picnic blanket and a few snacks. Keep it simple with the weekend papers, a couple of croissants and a picnic blanket; or fill a bag with a bread board, knife, cheese, crackers, prosciutto, dip, two glasses and a bottle of wine or even a couple of ciders. To get away from the hustle and bustle, head to O'Reilly's Canungra Valley Vineyard where you can buy a gourmet picnic basket which includes wine and a big rug so you can sit by the creek behind the property.

19. Have your cake and eat it too

Everyone loves to get their just desserts so seduce your significant other with a decadent dessert for two. Think souffle French toast, chocolate brownies or even a simple bowl of ice cream. If you're nervous enough without adding cooking into the mix, surprise them with a trip to Messina Gelato, Max Brenner or San Churro or pick up some giant lamingtons from the Reid Street Kitchen to eat in bed.

20. Put romance on the menu

If you're looking for somewhere special to take your special someone for dinner, there are a number of great Gold Coast restaurants where romance is on the menu and you're guaranteed a date to remember. Our favourites include Chill on Tedder, Four Winds 360 Restaurant, Rick Shores, Vanitas Restaurant at Versace or Seaduction.

21. Go on a mini break

These are more staycations than vacations, but you won't care when you're having drinks by the pool. And while you could totally do dinner at the amazing onsite restaurants, it's going to be a lot more memorable (and enjoyable!) if you instead stay in and order room service. Our picks include the Sheraton Mirage Resort and Spa, QT Gold Coast, Escarpment Retreat, and Peppers Ruffles Lodge and Spa.

As you solve puzzles and decode clues to escape within a certain time limit, you very well might get frustrated and be subjected to the worst of each other, so at least you know there's nowhere to go but up! Escape Hunt Gold Coast offer a range of scenarios for two or more players so why not get friends together for a fun group date?

23. Sweat together

According to science or research or someone sporty, people who work out together feel more chemistry towards one another thanks to the release of sweat-induced endorphins. Check out the best hikes and walks on the coast here.

24. Bowl them over

Ten pin bowling is always a great date idea because you can talk while you play, have a drink and engage in a bit of cheeky competition. Head to AMF Robina to bowl over your date with a couple of friendly games in their glow in the dark lanes before heading out to The Promenade for a burger at Grill'd or Yum Cha. Top off your night with dessert from Max Brenner.

25. Go whale watching

Each year, humpback whales undertake their annual migration from Antarctica to babymoon along the coast. As well as seeing these majestic creates up close, you can feel the wind in your hair, salty air in your lungs and recreate the king of the world' scene from Titanic. Don't forget to take a camera to catch the whales and those windswept couple shots! Click here to see a list of the coast's best whale watching operators.
