In short, the Gold Coast is where celebrities escape and play.
Whether it's to try surfing on our golden beaches like boy band One Direction, to hide away in mansions by the river like Angelina Jolie, or indulge in pure opulence at Palazzo Versace like singer Mariah Carey.
Pop stars that have performed in the city of Brisbane like Justin Bieber, Pink and Rod Stewart all choose to stay and play in the Goldie rather than our northern city of Brissy. Why wouldn't you? Its warm weather and natural beauty makes even us locals never want to leave.
As mentioned, the Palazzo Versace hotel in Main Beach lures many celebs including Kim Kardashian, Kayne West, rapper Snoop Dog, many movie stars and directors including Pirates of the Caribbean Jerry Bruckheimer and world famous band U2. The moment you walk into the Palazzo's lobby you can understand why... it's a class above many others in the world as far as decor goes, and my personal tip is even if you're not staying there - try the high tea. And you never know, pop star Pink could be eating a decadent dessert right behind you!

Hilton Surfers Paradise, Peppers in Broadbeach and the Marriott are other favourites of the famous, but some celebs like more privacy... like Johnny Depp and Brad Pitt. They choose to stay in another local celebrity's house. That's right, MotoGP champion Mick Doohan opens his doors to many celebs and even lets them use his private helicopter.
Dining out is also a celebrity 'must do' while staying on the Gold Coast. Hugh Jackman enjoys smaller restaurant Little Truffle in Mermaid Beach, (if you're a big fan of hunky Hugh, he's a co-owner of near-by lifestyle retreat Gwinganna, popping in for a relaxing stay may bring you that one degree closer to the Wolverine star). Broadbeach steak specialist Moo Moo's often welcome band Foo Fighters and countless Aussie celebs too. Lord of the Rings star Orlando Bloom was enjoying coffee at Broadbeach Elk cafe recently, and Omeros Brothers in Marina Mirage grab photos of their many celebrity guests to hang around the walls of the Main Beach restaurant.

Celebrities like One Direction love to take surfing lessons while staying on the Gold Coast - so you should always keep a look out to who's falling off those blue learner boards at Surfers Paradise beach! Taking in the spectacular bird's eye view from SkyPoint, Aussie singer Jessica Mauboy and kids' favourite the Wiggles have walked their famous feet up the steep but spectacular stair well.

And another tip, head to Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary. Many celebrities love to cuddle a koala and feed a kangaroo. Angelina Jolie and John Travolta have many photos on their social media sharing their love of this local wildlife park. Taylor Swift grabbed a selfie with a kangaroo at Paradise Country before her and Blake Lively checked out Warner Bros Movie World, which Russell Crowe and his family enjoyed as well. Or head to Dreamworld to spot supermodels like Jennifer Hawkins - there's just so much choice!

Jupiters Hotel and Casino regularly lures in international entertainers for performances and relaxing stays. I've seen Mariah Carey, Seal, Barry Humphries and Kings of Leon all hit the stage here at Jupiters (I've also seen quite a few well known TV stars at their Japanese restaurant Kiyomi) and with private gaming lounges upstairs, many celebs like to stay up late and try their luck on the tables!
With many Hollywood blockbuster films being made right here on the GC, it's going to be the temporary home of many movie stars. Whether you're strolling the mall of Surfers, watching dolphins at Sea World or fine dining in Broadbeach, keep an eye out for those sitting next to you. Hollywood hottie Ryan Reynolds and star wife Blake Lively were having coffee opposite me in Broadbeach recently... so you just never know.
But one thing's for sure - you better keep your camera ready!
