Australian walking holidays range from three to four day short breaks, one week hiking tours or extended walking tours of two to three weeks, which travel to more remote areas. ParkTours also organise special interest tours including birding, wildlife, food/wine and art-based adventures.

ParkTours have operated walking focused tours in Australia and around the world since 1975. The company is family-owned and the office is located in Australia's Gold Coast hinterland (near Lamington National Park).

Girraween Short Break (Spring)

Take a short break in southeast Queensland's Granite Belt at one of their favourite times of the year. Early Autumn in the national parks, heralds dramatic skies, abundant wildlife and cool nights radiant with stars. Walks include creek explorations, exhilarating ascents of the local peaks and shorter strolls through sub-tropical rainforests in World Heritage-listed areas. From Brisbane, they travel southwest to Main Range National Park for rainforest and lookout walks with the option to climb Mt Cordeaux. This park straddles the Great Dividing Range and is part of the Scenic Rim arc of mountains. South of Stanthorpe, they spend three nights at Girraween National Park. Meaning “Place of Flowers”, Girraween National Park is famous for its granite domes, improbable balancing boulders and exquisitely water-worn creek forms. Walks lead you to fascinating underground creeks, magnificent granite outcrops and lookouts over the eucalyptus forests and heathlands. Each day, they will offer a selection of popular and lesser-known walks with options to hike as much or as little as you prefer. Their final walk is to the largest exposed granite monolith in Australia, at Bald Rock National Park before returning to Brisbane in the late afternoon.

Lamington Short Break (Spring)

Visit some of Queensland's oldest national parks with a four day walking and wellbeing "Tagalong Tour" in southeast Queensland. Walks include creek explorations, longer wanders on the gently graded tracks and shorter strolls through this World Heritage-listed area, part of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia. This subtropical and cool temperate rainforest provides habitat for more than 200 rare or threatened plant and animal species. They begin in the northeast of the Scenic Rim arc of mountains with a short walk in Tamborine National Park. They continue south via Canungra to Beechmont and visit the studio of the artist, Dave Groom. Nearby their accommodation in Binna Burra’s Sky Lodges has only recently opened its doors after the devastating fires of 2019. Over two days, they celebrate the opening of Lamington National Park with a selection of walks with the option to hike as much or as little as you prefer. During your stay, you'll enhance your connection to body, mind and nature, with special guests teaching you Qigong and nature journaling. On your final morning, they drive across to Springbrook National Park, to enjoy a half-day walk to the Warringa Pool and the spectacular Purling Brook Falls circuit.

Bunya Mountains to Bundaberg

The majestic Bunya Mountains, less than three hours west of Brisbane, is a spectacular wilderness in a section of the Great Dividing Range. They begin with two nights there, home to the world's largest forest of bunya pines. Walks feature panoramic mountain scenery with views over the South Burnett region and southern plains. Moving to the North Burnett Region, they spend two nights in Biggenden, exploring the nearby Mount Walsh National Park. This remote national park offers steep forested slopes and mountain areas with spectacular exposed granite outcrops and cliffs. Their next two nights are spent in the Bundaberg Region, at the coastal town of Bangarra. They stroll along the Burnett River and visit the lush botanical gardens. A day cruise to Lady Musgrave, the jewel of the Southern Great Barrier Reef, gives you a chance to snorkel over coral reefs, teeming with marine life. The island is an important nesting site for diverse birdlife and is part of the Capricornia Cays Important Bird Area. On our return to Brisbane, they stop two nights in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland and stay at a tranquil eco-retreat. Gentle walks include Kondalilla National Park along with Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve.

Gold Coast Hinterland Great Walk

Make a pilgrimage to the heart of the Gondwana rainforests on one of Queensland’s long-distance hiking trails. Spend five days walking this 54-kilometre trail with only a day pack. This fully accommodated tour includes time at two of Lamington’s iconic lodges and chalet accommodation on Springbrook. From O’Reilly’s Rainforest Retreat, walk 21 kilometres through the Green Mountain section of Lamington following sections of the QLD/NSW border. Based at Binna Burra Lodge, we explore the Lower Ballanjui Circuit with lookouts over the eastern side of Lamington National Park. Admire the stands of flooded gums, brushbox and piccabeen groves on the way to lunch at the base of Ballanjui Falls. Leaving Lamington plateau, we descend past Egg Rock, a remnant plug from the Tweed shield volcano, Wollumbin (Mt Warning). The trail continues through the farming valley of Numinbah and climbs steadily to the mountain plateau of Springbrook. Staying two nights in Springbrook, we finish the official Great Walk with a half-day hike via Warringah Pools to the cool spray of Purlingbrook Falls. Our final day at Springbrook National Park includes the option of the Twin Falls Circuit and other short walks before returning to the Gold Coast.
