Gold Coast For Kids: 8 Ultimate Family Adventures Down Under

Gold Coast For Kids: 8 Ultimate Family Adventures Down Under

03 May 2023

Kids don’t really get to decide where the family goes on holiday but if they did, they’d choose the Gold Coast in an instant. Luckily, parents are also partial to a family getaway where everyone’s happy and having an absolute ball. So bring the kids and cross off some epic bucket list experiences in the best destination for family fun.

1.Treetop Adventures

If your child has a need for speed, then get them up among the treetops (in complete safety of course!) on Australia’s largest zipline at Treetop Challenge in Mount Tamborine. Under 8s can tackle the Treetop Challenge Juniors - a fun option that still involves clambering, climbing and swinging, just a little bit lower to the ground.

2. Feed the Birds at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary

An iconic Gold Coast experience that the kids will love. Every day at 8am and 4pm, the wild Rainbow Lorikeets flock to Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary where you can feed and interact with them as they land on your arms and head. All it costs is a gold coin donation for feeding. Afterwards head into the Sanctuary (you’ll need to purchase a ticket for this) and visit the incredible range of animals.

3. Learn to Surf

Known for its world-class waves, the Gold Coast is the perfect place to learn to surf. Surf Easy School in Currumbin and Get Wet Surf School in Main Beach offer classes for kids in a fun and safe environment with instructors who make it super fun. It’s a great way to build their confidence in the water and foster a love for the ocean.

4. Ride the Aquaduck

Part bus and part boat, the Aquaduck is the Gold Coast’s original amphibious vehicle that can travel on both land and water. Starting in Surfers Paradise, the trip takes you on a scenic tour of the Gold Coast, highlighting some of the city's top landmarks and attractions. Kids have the opportunity to drive the Duck on water and take home their own captains certificate. Cool!

6. Meet a DC Super Hero

Make your kid’s day and take them to Warner Bros Movie World, where they can meet their favourite DC superhero (or supervillain!). Catch all the iconic characters in the daily Star Parade down Main Street. Or you might bump into Batman, Catwoman, Bugs Bunny and many other Warner Bros celebs around the park who will be ready to greet your little superhero with a smile, a high-five and a photo.

6. To Infinity and Beyond!

Infinity is a portal into the kaleidoscope worlds and visual illusions through a series of 20 multi-sensual rooms. Kids will have a ball exploring each room filled with amazing special effects, lasers, mirrors, groovy music, atmospheric sounds and infinite fun. This experience takes around 30 minutes and is suitable for 8yrs and up.

7. Walk the Plank at the Pirate Park

One of the best parks on the Gold Coast, the Pirate Park at Palm Beach Parklands will delight kids of all ages. Built to resemble a pirate ship, children can play over and around the main ship hull and get their imagination going as they walk the plank, fly on the flying fox, and fire the cannons. While you watch them play, enjoy a coffee and treat from Dune Cafe, which is right next door. Bring towels for a dip in the lovely lagoon right next to the playground.

8. Learn to iFly

What has no wings but can fly? Your kid at iFly! If you have a little thrill-seeker, indoor skydiving will have then literally levitating with delight. With an experienced instructor assisting them inside a safe and controlled environment, the sky’s the limit on how much fun they can have here. (A great rainy day option too.)
