Drawing for Life
Drawing for LifeEach month we invite leading artists and performers to curate poses, subjects and performances for you to draw, with all materials provided. Relax and unwind with short, guided drawing warm-ups, followed by long and sustained poses or still life subjects, with help from our guest artist and team of artist educators. Whether you are new to drawing or one of the greats, all abilities are welcome to enjoy this unique and artful experience. February and March Join artist Sam Cranstoun as he leads you through a life drawing class that explores classical art techniques with a contemporary coastal twist. With a deep interest in Southeast Queensland history, Cranstoun’s practice looks at the narratives, events and moments that have shaped our subtropical surroundings. Responding to the HOTA Collects: Made in Surfers Paradise exhibition, this drawing class will take the all too familiar beach scene as its inspiration, combining renaissance drawing methods with Gold Coast glamour. *Please note the date change in March. April and May In these Drawing for Life sessions, Queensland artist Deb Mostert will focus on foundational drawing techniques and using some classic drawing materials. Cauldron Distillery Interactive Gin Blending Class
Get your creative juices flowing during an informative and interactive Gin Blending Class at Tamborine Mountain’s very own Cauldron Distillery. Do you enjoy creating recipes in the kitchen? How good is your palate at detecting flavours? During this one hour experience, you will learn everything there is to know about gin and then you are set free to create your own gin masterpiece to take home. Set in their world-class distillery and guided by their distilling team, you will select from a multitude of individually distilled botanicals and skilfully blend them together to create a balanced gin that suits your palate and taste. How does a gin with orange, sage, and anise sound to you? Maybe you prefer rose petals, strawberry, and cocoa nibs? Perhaps your preference is lemon myrtle, macadamia nuts and honey? The choice will be yours because your gin blend can be as unique as you are! At the end of this hands-on class, you'll have made beautiful candles to enjoy at home, decorated with gorgeous crystals and botanicals. The weather can change very quickly and you are advised to layer your clothing.

Twilight Tour at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary
See Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary like you’ve never seen it before – after dark! Take a very special guided tour through Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary getting up close with our nocturnal residents, such as the cheeky Tasmanian Devils, who are most active when the sun goes down. Learn more about the history of the Gold Coast’s traditional custodians with two unique tours: Biyuhl Tour - Biyuhl meaning hill or mountain. Gunanggay Tour - Gunanggay meaning flat country. Immerse yourself in a spectacular light display, where you will embrace Dreamings and spirit of the Yugambeh people. Go on a spotlight adventure searching for some Aussie native wildlife, and finish off with some traditional bush tea.

Macrame Tapestry and Sip Workshop
Looking for unique and crafty activities to get into on the Gold Coast? Join in at Tamborine Mountain for a hands-on and relaxing few hours of tapestry macrame making at the new location. This class will take you through a step-by-step process to create your very own macrame tapestry wall hanging, which you will be guided through as you go, so even the most scared beginner will enjoy this class. You will twist and knot together a gorgeous macrame tapestry at the new location up at Tamborine Mountain. During this workshop, you will learn macrame - a diverse skill that will carry over to many different art mediums. Specifically, you will be learning to macrame a wall tapestry that you will take home. Everything is included plus access to the tools and materials you will need to create your very own masterpiece. For double the fun, bring along a lovely friend to craft and catch up with or book a group to save. Food and drinks can be purchased from the adjoining cafe.

Macrame Hat Holder Class
Looking for unique indoor activities on Tamborine Mountain? Try your hand at DIY macramé and learn how to make your favourite hat into statement wall art. No more throwing your hat in the back of the wardrobe to get squashed losing its shape. During the workshop, you'll knot up your very own macramé hat hanger, learning a number of various basic macramé knots (hats are not included). You are welcome to bring along your favourite hat to make your hanging. Held in the Gold Coast Hinterland, our macramé workshop is a great way to unwind and destress with friends as you learn this meditative textile art. Enjoy a few hours creating with them, return home with a gorgeous macramé hat hanger, which you can proudly display your hats on!

Macrame Pot Holder and Sip Workshop
Looking for fun things to do in Tamborine Mountain? You can learn how to macrame a beautiful pot holder for your little green friend during this hands-on workshop. The class will teach you how to twist and knot macrame, which is a diverse skill that will carry over to many different art mediums. You can share the fun of this DIY craft with your loved ones, whether you are looking for a casual get-together with a friend or an intimate party for team building or a hen's night. You will need to bring your special pot in that you wish to hang inside your creation so that the pot holder is created with the correct measurements. Alternatively, there will be a pot available on the day for you to use and take home. At this time of year, it is advisable to layer your clothing as the weather can change quickly. Please wear shoes. Food and drinks can be purchased from the adjoining cafe.

This class will begin with your teacher showing you some mindfulness meditation techniques, and from there you'll go into a free-flowing art expression that will unload your mind and bring out your unique creative flair. This wonderful, easy form of art therapy is appropriate for all ages and makes a great activity for team bonding or just something fun to do in your free time with your friends.

Sunroom | Unconventional Landscapes: the vision of Rosalie GascoigneSunroom is about providing a safe creative space for art making, creative play and exploration for adults who identify with disability. We believe in the social model of disability - that is, disability is the result of the interaction between people living with impairments and an environment filled with physical, attitudinal, communication and social barriers. (Sourced from PWD) No prior art making experience is necessary, only a willingness to engage your imagination, curiosity and sense of play. March Rosalie Gascoigne's Last Leaf is currently on display in HOTA's Material World exhibition. In the March edition of Sunroom, we will be exploring Gascoigne's approach and creating our own assemblages of abstracted material and text. This event is recommended for persons aged 18+.

Hear from an extraordinary panel featuring The Hon Kate Jones, with over two decades of government leadership; Karyn Murphy, rugby league legend turned coach; Lauren Watson, an artist challenging disability norms; and Bonnie Hancock, the record-breaking ironwoman who paddled around Australia on a surf ski. Together, these women offer a dynamic blend of experience, resilience, and empowerment. Raffle prizes will also be on offer with all proceeds generously raised to be donated to local charity Support The Girls. Kids and Families Fishing Lesson – Paradise Point
Do your kids want to go fishing but you’re not sure what to do? Want to learn how to fish, but feel uncomfortable about it? Send them along and they will take care of all the tangles, while they learn alongside other kids or families in the same boat. 2 Bent Rods will ease everyone into fishing with this fun and educational activity. Classes are very hands-on, everyone will be shown how to use the equipment and receive help to correct their technique. Kids and families will learn to read the beach, catch bait with yabby pumps and a bait net, tie a fishing knot, cast a rod and hopefully land a fish. They will pick up plenty of tips to help make their next fishing adventure more successful. This class is for both kids and families. All bait and fishing equipment provided. Bookings are essential.

Ballun Gawrehma: River StoriesJoin local Kombumerri man Lann Levinge for an immersive story telling experience for schools. Multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, producer, director and creative designer, Lann guides you through culturally significant sites, sharing local history passed down by elders. Starting at Wulabora, a sharing and gathering space celebrating Kombumerri history, you'll delve into family stories, local history, Jenny Graham and the Keeper of the Light, interwoven with dreamtime tales and environmental wisdom. The sensory experience also involves interaction with tangible indigenous artefacts, clothing, weapons, tools and immersive soundscapes captured and composed by Lann. ‘I’m loving the journey and path that I’m on, discovering new ways to help and develop a new generation of language and cultural warriors, creating awareness of and connecting indigenous culture, especially the Kombumerri ways and the Yugambeh Language, to everyone through visual art, music and dance.’ This 45-minute experience can be tailored to your curriculum focus and age of students, contact firstname.lastname@example.org to discuss further.
