Immerse yourself in a spectacular light display, where you will embrace Dreamings and spirit of the Yugambeh people. Go on a spotlight adventure searching for some Aussie native wildlife, and finish off with some traditional bush tea.

2024 Cooly Classic & Gold Coast Swim Week
It’s official, the Gold Coast is now home to Australia’s largest swimming festival! Gold Coast Swim Week is a week-long celebration of swimming that sees two existing major events join forces, plus leading coaches and special guests hosting clinics and training sessions at Gold Coast beaches and pools. On Sunday April 14, the Cooly Classic - a rare opportunity to swim a course with some of Australia’s most revered surf breaks as your backdrop – Snapper Rocks, Coolangatta and Kirra. There are four distances, from 1km to 5km, but it’s always the 2.0km Cooly Classic from Snapper Rocks to Kirra Beach which attracts the masses. Your Start line, Snapper Rocks, is one of the world’s most famous surf breaks. Then, your course is a straight line to Kirra Beach, passing Rainbow Bay, Greenmount and Coolangatta Beaches as you swim. Throughout the week, there’ll be a range of small group sessions and clinics with guest coaches. This is a chance to receive specialist coaching and also swim with local squads at some of the Gold Coast’s favourite open water training locations.

Ballun Gawrehma: River Stories
Ballun Gawrehma: River StoriesJoin local Kombumerri man Lann Levinge for an immersive story telling experience for schools. Multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, producer, director and creative designer, Lann guides you through culturally significant sites, sharing local history passed down by elders. Starting at Wulabora, a sharing and gathering space celebrating Kombumerri history, you'll delve into family stories, local history, Jenny Graham and the Keeper of the Light, interwoven with dreamtime tales and environmental wisdom. The sensory experience also involves interaction with tangible indigenous artefacts, clothing, weapons, tools and immersive soundscapes captured and composed by Lann. ‘I’m loving the journey and path that I’m on, discovering new ways to help and develop a new generation of language and cultural warriors, creating awareness of and connecting indigenous culture, especially the Kombumerri ways and the Yugambeh Language, to everyone through visual art, music and dance.’ This 45-minute experience can be tailored to your curriculum focus and age of students, contact education@hota.com.au to discuss further. This class will take you through a step-by-step process to create your very own macrame tapestry wall hanging, which you will be guided through as you go, so even the most scared beginner will enjoy this class. You will twist and knot together a gorgeous macrame tapestry at the new location up at Tamborine Mountain. During this workshop, you will learn macrame - a diverse skill that will carry over to many different art mediums. Specifically, you will be learning to macrame a wall tapestry that you will take home. Everything is included plus access to the tools and materials you will need to create your very own masterpiece. Looking for fun things to do in Tamborine Mountain? You can learn how to macrame a beautiful pot holder for your little green friend during this hands-on workshop. The class will teach you how to twist and knot macrame, which is a diverse skill that will carry over to many different art mediums. You can share the fun of this DIY craft with your loved ones, whether you are looking for a casual get-together with a friend or an intimate party for team building or a hen's night. You will need to bring your special pot in that you wish to hang inside your creation so that the pot holder is created with the correct measurements. Alternatively, there will be a pot available on the day for you to use and take home. At this time of year, it is advisable to layer your clothing as the weather can change quickly. Please wear shoes. Food and drinks can be purchased from the adjoining cafe.

Looking for unique indoor activities on Tamborine Mountain? Try your hand at DIY macramé and learn how to make your favourite hat into statement wall art. No more throwing your hat in the back of the wardrobe to get squashed losing its shape. During the workshop, you'll knot up your very own macramé hat hanger, learning a number of various basic macramé knots (hats are not included). You are welcome to bring along your favourite hat to make your hanging. Held in the Gold Coast Hinterland, this macramé workshop is a great way to unwind and destress with friends as you learn this meditative textile art. Enjoy a few hours creating with them, return home with a gorgeous macramé hat hanger, which you can proudly display your hats on!

Little ArtLab | Secret Spirals
Secret SpiralsThe artist and scientist Leonardo Da Vinci would write in a way that was indecipherable to the untrained eye. In this Little ArtLab we will be creating secret paintings using invisible ink (made with non-toxic materials). Just like Leonardo we will be looking at the natural world around us to draw snails, shells, feathers and animals. Little ArtLabbers will experience the science behind interacting materials as we discover secret images through a revealing colourful wash! Children must be accompanied by an adult or carer and cannot be left unsupervised at any time, thank you for your understanding.

Do your kids want to go fishing but you’re not sure what to do? Want to learn how to fish, but feel uncomfortable about it? Send them along and they will take care of all the tangles, while they learn alongside other kids or families in the same boat. 2 Bent Rods will ease everyone into fishing with this fun and educational activity. Classes are very hands-on, everyone will be shown how to use the equipment and receive help to correct their technique. Kids and families will learn to read the beach, catch bait with yabby pumps and a bait net, tie a fishing knot, cast a rod and hopefully land a fish. They will pick up plenty of tips to help make their next fishing adventure more successful. This class is for both kids and families. All bait and fishing equipment provided. Bookings are essential.

Squeals of delight (maybe fear) can be heard echoing down the beach when the kids pump up yabbies. You and your family will have a ball learning an awesome life skill, bond and make wonderful memories for the day. Kids and families will learn to read the beach, catch bait with yabby pumps and a bait net, tie a fishing knot, cast a rod and hopefully land a fish. They will pick up plenty of tips to help make their next fishing adventure more successful. This class is for both kids and families. All bait and fishing equipment provided. All staff have blue cards for working with children. Bookings are essential.
