GOLD COAST COFFEE ROASTERS

GOLD COAST COFFEE ROASTERS

09 Nov 2017

We looooooove our coffee on the Gold Coast.  And with so many locally-roasted brews being served up in our restaurants and cafes, who can blame us?  Check out these local operators for your next brew:

SILIPO COFFEE

One of the Gold Coast’s most recognisable home-grown brands, Silipo Coffee is hidden away in Southport’s industrial area – but is well worth seeking out. You can grab a specialty coffee and baked treat at their espresso bar and barista training cafe, and peek through the window to the roaster, where beans are being processed to perfection. @silipo_coffee

POMEROY’S COFFEE ROASTERS

This family owned award-winning specialty coffee roaster and tea merchant is based on the Isle of Capri where they hand-craft their coffee blends using high grade Arabica beans.  Pomeroy’s also offer a range of single origin beans, Nespresso-compatible biodegradable coffee pods, specialty teas, turmeric, hot chocolate and honey. @pomeroyscoffeeroasters

FIRST FRUITS COFFEE

Daniel Smith and his team at First Fruits Coffee are so keen for Gold Coasters to enjoy their brews that they offer free training to the baristas serving their beans.  They also offer fresh-roasted espresso blends that you can have delivered on subscription. Try the Crowd Pleaser or Big Dawg blends for a flavoursome cup. @firstfruitscoffee

PARADOX COFFEE ROASTERS

From the café to the roastery where the 5-metre-tall Brambati roaster dominates the scene, Paradox is all about the coffee. Head Roaster Matt Trow is committed to using only fair wage, sustainably-sourced beans and has delved into the science of blending beans, achieving a tasty range of blends and single origin coffees. @paradoxcoffeeroasters

BLACKBOARD COFFEE

Good coffee is king at Blackboard, where experimentation and education has split their business into two ventures – Blackboard Café Academy where the roasting and training takes place, and a breezy café in Varsity Lakes where we sip the final brew. They also have a mobile coffee truck available for hire.  Count us in. @blackboardcoffee

BESITO COFFEE

The secret to Besito’s small batch roasting process lies in an antique roaster that has been lovingly restored to it’s former glory to pump out single origin beans and artisan blends.  You can order their beans online or find them at the markets in Burleigh Heads, Tallebudgera Valley and Nerang Country Paradise Parklands. @besitocoffee

KOKO COFFEE

KoKo Coffee’s well-travelled coffee scouts seek out distinct and unique sustainably-farmed beans and roast them right here in Mermaid Beach.  Their roastery creates exquisite small-batch coffees and also hosts public and private cupping sessions and barista training. @kokocoffeeroasters

QUEST COFFEE ROASTERS

Attention to detail is the keystone of this Burleigh Heads roaster’s ‘quest’ to produce the best cuppa on the coast.  They start with Rainforest Alliance green coffee beans and begin the 30 steps that go into every cup of espresso they serve.  It’s quite a process but totally worth it.  The coffee speaks for itself. @questagram

MERLO

Merlo isn’t exactly a small operation but a trip to the roasting house and cafe at Ferry Road Brickworks in Southport is a great way to get a cup of one of their 8 specialty blends or monthly single origin special.  Friendly baristas will ply you with a free cup while you’re waiting for your beans. @merlocoffee

I’m fascinated by all things food. When I’m not sniffing out fresh seafood or truffles, the search is on for the story behind the plate. Food involves passion. It’s the conduit for me to find people who really care about what they do, who bring colour and flavour to others’ lives rather than simply existing in the mundane.
