Ready To Roll: Gold Coast On Wheels

Ready To Roll: Gold Coast On Wheels

18 Mar 2022

There are many ways to see, feel, and experience the scenic surrounds of the Gold Coast. If you’re looking for a different mode of discovery, why not explore our patch of paradise on wheels? It’s equal amounts eco-friendly and fun. Go as fast as you like, feel the wind in your hair and push it to the extreme, or slow things down and go with the flow. There’s something for every ability and preferred pace, whether that’s full speed downhill or a leisurely roll along your favourite, flat beachside path.

So, what are you waiting for? Grab your helmet, strap on those knee pads and get ready to roll on the Gold Coast.

MOUNTAIN BIKING

One of Gold Coast’s major drawcards is its proximity to pristine natural habitats. You can ride downhill over rugged terrain through beautiful bushland at two impressive mountain bike parks right on our doorstep. Nerang National Park has 20 different bike trails, all varying in length and difficulty and Boomerang Farm Bike Park in Mudgeeraba is a true mecca for those who like to push it to the extreme whilst on two wheels. Don’t worry if you can’t fit a mountain bike in your carry on baggage. Just Ride Nerang rent quality mountain bikes at both of these locations, so you can rock up, rent and ride with no trouble at all.

SKATEBOARDING

The Gold Coast might be surfer’s paradise, but it’s also skater’s paradise. We’ve got some of the best skateboarding and BMX parks in the world. Gold Coast locals Keegan Palmer and Logan Martin both won Gold Medals at last year’s Olympics in freestyle skateboarding and BMX, respectively. Both of these local legends honed their skills on home ground. Here’s your chance to try out the parks where these two titans practiced until they were perfect. On the northern end of the coast at Helensvale, you’ll find a skatepark with plenty of fast-flowing features. Varsity Skatepark is accessible and one of the best around; while Elanora is for those who go big, with an eight foot bowl, vert wall and full pipe.

In mid-summer or on rainy days, you can take shelter from the elements at indoor skatepark and training facility, Level Up in Currumbin. With ramps, rails, vert walls and half pipe aplenty there’s all kinds of skate-based fun including a foam pit where you can practice your airs. They also hold lessons and free-ride sessions where you can book a slot and simply turn up and skate for a couple of hours.

GREEN CABS

When you visit the Gold Coast, you want to spend as much time admiring the views and soaking up the atmosphere as possible. So, when you find yourself around Surfers Paradise and are looking to get from one place to another, hail yourself a Green Cab! These open air environmentally friendly pedicabs are a  cool and quirky mode of transportation. While they look like they’d be more at home on the bustling streets of Bangkok, they’re a great way to get around the Gold Coast.

LIME BIKES

These easy to use and versatile E-bikes are a popular mode of travel especially along the coastal walkways. You may have seen them in the bigger cities, but you’ll notice Lime now calls the Gold Coast home too. Simply download the app, locate yourself a bicycle, scan the QR code and you’re ready to ride. The network of cycle paths all over our city and beside the beach are yours to enjoy at your leisure.

ROLLER SKATING

The energetic team at Fun Daze will push you to your limits and help you improve your roller skating skills. By fusing the style of yesteryear with advanced teaching techniques, Fun Daze will help you gain confidence to skate on our beautiful beach paths and local skate parks. If you like to get retro, head to the Epic Skate Rink in Tweed Heads for some old fashioned fun on wheels.

So if you want to discover the Gold Coast on wheels, leave the car in the garage and get on board (or bike!) for one of the best ways to explore the city.
