Whalebone
WhaleboneNominated for the Green Room Awards, Best Set and Costume Design Welcome to the ‘Depository’, a mysterious bureau that’s seen better days. The last, rather whimsical worker continues with a wondrous task. With the help of some odd and amazing machinery, he extracts the stories that live in old, discarded objects and safeguards these memories in the magical ‘mother of stories’, the place where all stories are kept. This strange and vulnerable world starts to fall apart when the place is under attack by a rogue A.I. who tries to install malware…. and only two unlikely buddies can save the ‘Depository’ and its stories. Storytelling versus data-management, human versus machine: a gripping and humorous clash between the analog and the digital, told through dazzling video and computer animations, quirky contraptions, robotics, clunky inventions and flying objects. Physical reality turns virtual and back in this family show about what makes us human, the stories we tell, and the artificial intelligence knocking at our doors. Telling a tale full of magic and action, WHALEBONE is funny, intriguing and touching. It opens the door to a fantastical world where the future of humanity is under scrutiny. Performed by the imaginative mind of clown, tinkerer, inventor and comedian Jens Altheimer, winner of the Adelaide Fringe Award for Best Production for Children with Squaring the Wheel and nominated for the same award with Loose Ends. ’This is the kind of show your kids will love. It is full of junk, fantastical objects, artificial intelligence, drama, thrills and puzzle solving.’ Samsara Dunston ★ ★ ★ ★ Recommended for ages 6+.

Kids Take Over | Space Designers
Kids Take Over | Space DesignersAs we continue to delve deeper into the mysteries of the universe, the necessity for creating sustainable habitats on other planets for long-duration space missions is becoming increasingly important. Our Space Designers Program is designed to challenge kids to think creatively and innovatively when it comes to designing potential habitats for different planets. The program will begin by exploring current advancements in space habitat design, such as 3D printing buildings on Mars, to inspire kids to think about the possibilities and innovative ways they can create their own habitats. Kids will then select a planet of their choice and take into account the unique considerations of that planet’s environment while designing their habitat. The program aims to provide kids with the opportunity to envision and design potential habitats while considering the specific needs of different users, to gain an understanding of the challenges of living in space, and to spark an interest in STEAM fields.Recommended ages: 8-12

Kids Take Over | SEASONS
Kids Take Over | SEASONSJoin us on an enchanting journey with Seasons - a free interactive forest installation crafted entirely from sustainable materials! James was not the only one who went on an adventure with his giant peach! Unknown to him and his travelling companions, as the peach rolled down the hill to the ocean, a few of the magic seeds followed, rolling and tumbling stopping abruptly against the roots of a large, towering hoop pine. On impact, the seeds burst, and the magic tickled its way through wormholes in the large pine tree’s roots. But, instead of growing bigger, the tree did something very peculiar. From each root, hundreds of baby hoops, palms, ferns, towering flowers, and their inhabitants started growing, and growing and growing and soon formed a magical forest full of the most exquisite, coloured fauna and flora attracting both microscopic insects and creatures unlike which have been seen before. All forests have a guardian, and this one is no different. The guardians spend their days looking after the seasons, keeping the forest healthy and keeping the balance between the inhabitants. It’s a big job! But often, they find themselves lonely and are full of hope that one special day a group of travellers will stumble upon the forest, enter a world of adventure, and exit an honorary guardian of the forest. Drop in between 10am-2pm each day!
