If you are coming to the Gold Coast for holidays with your teenage kids, you may think the only thing for them to do is visit the theme parks. But there is so much more that will keep them entertained for hours and allow you to relax and enjoy your holiday too.
Stand up paddle boarding
With so many gorgeous waterways all around the Gold Coast, Stand Up Paddle Boarding is the ideal way to take to the water. There are lots of places where you can hire them from as little as $20 per hour giving your teen plenty of time to cruise around and master this new skill. Check out SUP in Paradise at Budds Beach or Gold Coast Outdoor Hire at beautiful Tallebudgera Creek.
If your teens love the water, then maybe they would like to learn to surf? The Gold Coast is renowned for its beautiful beaches so what better spot to test out your surf skills? There are several surf schools up and down the Coast but if you are staying close to Surfers Paradise then the Cheyne Horan Surf School is located right at Surfers Paradise Beach.
Indoor Trampolining, Burleigh and Robina
Indoor Trampolining has to be one of the best ways to let your teens burn off some excess energy. This popular pastime has seen large indoor trampolining parks open up in several locations on the Coast. Air Factory at Burleigh Waters or Bounce Inc at Robina are just two that ‘spring’ to mind.
Ten Pin Bowling, Surfers Paradise
Everyone loves ten pin bowling right? Your teens will have a blast in the nightclub atmosphere of Strike Bowling in Surfers Paradise. With large screens that play the latest video clips and great food your teens will fall in love with ten pin bowling all over again.
Go Karting, Pimpama
Get the adrenalin racing with a day of Go-Karting. Bring out your teens competitive edge and challenge them to race against you or each other. There are a number of both indoor and outdoor tracks around the Gold Coast. Located on the northern end of the Gold Coast is the Le Mans track. With new karts and track design plus family karts available they will be ready to race!
Aqua Splash, Southport
Aqua Splash is located in the Broadwater just across the road from Australia Fair Shopping Centre and is open seasonally. It is the jumping castle of your childhood bulked up and on water! Splash, jump and slide for an hour. I guarantee they will leave the water completely exhausted. It is patrolled by qualified life guards and each session is colour coded so you always get the full time you pay for. Prices start at just $12 for under 16’s.
Treetop Challenge, Mount Tamborine
The Tree Top Challenge has two brilliant locations on the Gold Coast. One is inside Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary and the other is at Thunderbird Park, Mount Tamborine. The tree top challenge is a series of flying foxes and suspension bridges high amongst the tree tops. This is a self-paced activity so you can take your time or go as quick as you like. If you are a real dare-devil, then why not try out the Canyon Zipline Guided Tour. Seven zip lines in total where you can reach speeds of up to 70kph. (Available at Thunderbird Park only)
Horse riding, Mount Tamborine
Whilst at Thunderbird Park why not go for a leisurely trail ride in this very picturesque setting. Prices start at $50 for a half hour ride. The rides are suitable for beginners through to experienced riders. Individual rides or longer rides can also be arranged in advance.
Game Over, Helensvale
If the normally perfect Gold Coast weather happens to become a little less perfect than it should be then why not head for some indoor fun at Game Over. Located just across the road from Movie World, Game Over has an awesome indoor go kart track, rock climbing walls and laser tag. There is also a coffee shop and a viewing area where mum and dad can relax for a while.
This brand new attraction is the first of its kind in the world. A hologram is a 3-dimensional shape formed by light beams. At Holoverse you will experience 10 different holograms including an African safari, flying through the air and jumping down holes.
